What you should know before traveling to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has borders with: Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. It has the population of 25.563.441 people. The size is 447.400 km2. They have warm and long summers and mild winters. A big part of the country is covered by deserts. The country code is 998. The capital city is Tashkent.

All foreign citizens, except passport holders of the CIS countries, need a visa. A letter of invitation is no longer required for several countries, including: Austria, Belgium, United Kingdom, Switzerland and etc. However, citizens of the United States and Canada still need it. You must register three days after you entered into the country. Also, you should apply for a visa before you travel to this country.

The national carrier is Tashkent. They have the modern airport. But, there are several more airports in this country. Traveling by plane is the best way to go to Uzbekistan. You can go from Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine to Uzbekistan by train, but these are long journeys. You can also travel by a car, but there are some safety issues in certain areas. Even land mines are possible, so you should avoid this way of transportation. 

The official language is Uzbeks. 74% of the population use this language. However, Russian language is widely used. About 14% of the population understand Russian language. English isn’t widely spoken. Only people in hotels and restaurants understand it. But, more and more people learn English language.
The official currency is the Uzbek Som. There are a lot of ATMs and banks in the capital city. ATMs accept foreign cards.
