What you should know before traveling to Turkey

97% of Turkey belongs to the West Asia and the Middle East. The rest of it belongs to Europe. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations. The capital is Ankara. Although, some people believe that the capital of Turkey is Istanbul. The size of the country is 783,562km². The population is 73.193.000. The country code is +90. 

In order to get to Turkey, you must apply to the Turkish e-visa. This will cost you $20. In order to pay the visa, you must use MasterCard or Visa, because only these two payment methods are acceptable. The e-visa is valid for three months, for most countries. But, for citizens from Belarus, it is valid for 2 months. This visa is valid one month for citizens from: South Africa, Moldova, Bahrain, Pakistan, Armenia, India and Bangladesh. The citizens of Germany can enter Turkey with their passport. 

If you are traveling by plane, you will land at the Istanbul's Atatürk International Airport. It is the primary airport in Turkey. It has good connections with a lot of European and Asian cities. If you want to travel by train, you can use TransBalkan. If you are traveling by car, you will probably enter into Turkey from Bulgaria or Greece. 

The official language is Turkish. But a lot of younger people understand English language. However, elderly people usually speak just Turkish. Kurdish language is also used (7-10% of the population). Some people understand German and French languages. 

The official currency is Turkish lira. An interesting fact is that bargaining is very important in Turkey. Also, you get a VAT refund (18-23%) for most items.
